New Puma Platform from AMD

In a time when notebooks and mobility are all the rage, AMD's new Turion X2 Ultra processor is their first ever designed for mobile processor. The new platform which is scheduled to launch this week at Computex consists of the Turion X2, a mobile chipset and wireless chips from AMD's partners.

Unlike the Barcelona, the Turion X2 is different in a few ways including the way it supplies power to the processor so that the cores run at variable speeds. The memory controller also is able to handle more mobility. In addition, AMD is focusing on hybrid graphics technology which would allow PC users to easily conserver power according to their needs.

So if AMD experiences no speed bumps rolling out the products to their partners, they may be on the road to a very smooth ride this year.

New Chips & PCs on the Block

That's right. All eyes on the new wave of PCs at Computex 2008. Don't forget the baby chips like Intel's Atom and Nvidia's Tegra that make it all possible.

All the fuss is about those fast rising low-budget notebooks and the very tiny but high performance chips that run them. Lately, there has been a wave of these notebooks that started to appear everywhere. Some worth mentioning include: Asus Eee 901, MSI Wind, Acer Aspire One, HP mini-notebook and Dell's XPS M1210.

As popularity of these notebooks rise, also comes the shortage of the chips. So be prepared if you want to get your hands on one of these this summer!

Nvidia Going Green and Going Mobile

Nvidia will be showing off their new Tegra brand for mobile application processors at this week's Computex. Their first processor for smartphones, the APX 2500, will be joined by two other processors showing that they are serious about targeting the fast and growing Mobile Internet Device category.

Like Nvidia, Intel already has huge plans for its Atom line of processors, but Nvidia is focusing their strategy on power consumption and the ever so popular green trend we see almost everywhere. Green also being their company color simply represents a coincidence that falls in their favor.

Another interesting point to note is that their products are also designed to work exclusively with Microsoft's Windows Mobile Software.
